Dining out in this region offers the delightful experience of Andalusian sociability. Families and friends, often accompanied by children, commence early with tapas and continue dining until well past midnight. Some of the finest restaurants originated from ventas and tapas bars that offer dishes crafted from fresh produce and homemade cooking. They consistently provide exceptional value for money.

Mijas restaurants

El Mirlo Blanco

Offers genuine Spanish cuisine with a focus on Basque dishes from the northern region of Spain. During summer, it’s a delightful experience to sit outside on the terrace, overlooking the Plaza de la Constitución in Mijas Village center. In winter, the cozy indoor setting emanates the scent of burning olive wood. Regardless of the season, this restaurant remains one of my favorites. My recommended choices from the menu are caracoles (snails in stew), followed by leg of lamb (for garlic lovers) and finishing off with their specialty Soufflé (ideal for two but can satisfy five!).

Bodega del Pintor

Is a Mijas restaurant that caters to all, whether you’re in for a quick or leisurely drink, a light or extended lunch. It’s a perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon in pleasant conversation. The quality of their food and wine selection, whether tapas or ‘sharing plates,’ is exceptional. With its amiable service and relaxed atmosphere, Bodega del Pintor has quickly become one of my preferred spots in Mijas Pueblo.

Meson El Olivar

Located next to the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall) in Mijas Pueblo, offers excellent value and consistently good food, attracting many locals. During summer, their BBQ options are worth trying, particularly the affordable pork chop. Note that it might get crowded in July and August, so relax with a glass of tinto verano while waiting. Closed on Saturdays.

 El Vino Mijas

Wine lovers must visit Museo El Vino Mijas. They boast a fantastic array of cavas, reds, roses, and whites from various Spanish regions, many of which are rare finds not usually seen in supermarkets. Their gourmet tapas paired with wines and olive oil are worth trying.

La Pampa

A recent discovery has become a personal favorite. It’s a modern take on tapas and tablas. There’s something for everyone – from Jemma’s adoration of the guacamole tower to Ian’s fondness for the Empanadillas, and my usual choice of camembert. They offer a selection for vegetarians too, making Tara in admin quite content. The shared food is reasonably priced and perfect for sharing.
